Jackets, jumpers, T-shirts, cardigans, dresses, skirts, trousers, shoes, boots, swimwear, sleeping bags, coats, and outer suits are welcome when they meet the rules.
Pack the right bag.
The rules keep the racks useful, fair, and full of clothes people are happy to take home. You do not have to remember everything before your first visit.
At check-in, volunteers check your items and explain what you can take. Use this page to pack the right bag and understand the edge cases.
Quick rule summary.
These are the main limits. The sections below explain quality, sizes, baby clothes, donations, and payment.
Before you pack your bag.
Use this checklist while sorting at home. It keeps check-in quicker and helps the racks stay useful.
What you can bring.
Accepted items are useful children's clothes that meet the quality rules.
Bring up to 15 items for swap credit. If you bring more suitable items, those extras count as donation. Donations in larger sizes, especially 92-134, are very useful.
Seasonal clothes are welcome all year. Summer clothes in winter are fine. Winter clothes in summer are fine too.
Quality and brands.
Bring clothes you would be genuinely pleased to see on the rack. The simple test is: would you happily let your child wear this to a birthday party?
- Clean clothes that smell fresh, more like outside air than fabric softener.
- Modern items that still hold their shape.
- No stains, holes, heavy pilling, discolouration, cracked prints, or damaged parts.
- Shoes must be whole, wearable, and in good condition.
- The brand label should still be visible.
Items that work differently.
Some good items can still come along without counting as normal swap credit.
Rompers are welcome, but no more than 20% of what you bring. Extra rompers are left out once rompers are already above 20% of your bag.
Socks, tights, hats, scarves, mittens, and winter accessories can be brought and taken for free. They do not give swap credit.
What you can take home.
You can take up to the same number of accepted swap items you brought in, within the size range you are allowed to swap into.
This rule keeps larger sizes available too. Without it, the biggest sizes would disappear quickly and families with older children would have less reason to come back.
Baby sizes and the small-size munt.
Baby sizes 50, 56, and 62 can be bought with the small-size munt: 10 items for EUR20.
This is useful if you are expecting a baby, buying a gift, or starting out without clothes to swap yet. Sizes above 62 are not for sale through this path; those are part of the swap system.
- If you are only buying baby clothes and not swapping, go straight to check-in.
- If you are also bringing swap clothes, follow the normal swap check-in flow.
- The small-size munt can also be given as a gift.
- If you want it sent to you, email Het Gele Laarsje.
Saved credit, old coins, and donations.
Check-in can help if you brought more than you take, still have older tokens, or only want to donate.
If you bring more accepted items than you take home, you can save the remaining credit for a later event.
If you still have swap coins from the first three editions, bring them with you. They can still be used.
You can donate extra good clothes during the event. If you are only donating and not swapping, go straight to check-in and say they are donations.
If you cannot bring a donation during the swap evening, email Het Gele Laarsje to ask about another moment. For large donations in Leeuwarden, pickup may be possible.
Access contribution.
The standard access contribution is EUR3 for anyone who can pay it. If that is not possible right now, you can still swap for free. If you want to support the concept or pay for someone else, EUR6 is very welcome.
The contribution helps pay for clothing bins, hangers, racks, tokens, and promotion. The event is volunteer-run.
Common questions.
Short answers for repeat visitors and edge cases.
Do I need to register?
No, not for swapping or baby-clothes buying.
Can I bring fewer than 15 items?
Yes. Fifteen is the maximum, not a minimum.
Can I buy larger sizes if I pay?
No. Sizes above 62 are part of the swap system.
Can I bring only baby clothes?
Yes, as long as they follow the same quality rules. Baby sizes 50, 56, and 62 can also be bought with the small-size munt.
Can I bring only donations?
Yes. Bring them to check-in and say they are donations.
Can I bring an item that needs repair?
Only if it can be repaired before it goes back into the swap. Repairs are free, but sign-up and volunteer availability matter.
