How it works.

Het Gele Laarsje is a monthly children's clothing swap in Leeuwarden. You can swap clothes your child has outgrown, buy small baby sizes if you do not have anything to swap yet, or bring an item for repair if you signed it up first.

You do not need to know the whole system before you arrive. Tell a volunteer what you are here for, and they will point you to the right next step.

First, come to check-in.

Check-in is the starting point for almost everyone. This is where volunteers check clothes, explain what you can take home, help with the baby munt, and receive repair items or donations.

The first few minutes can take a little time, especially at the start of the evening. That time is useful: clothes are checked carefully, the racks stay nice, and you know what you can look for before browsing.

Choose your path.

Most visitors fit one of these three routes. If you are doing more than one thing, check-in will help you combine them.

  1. I want to swap children's clothes

Bring up to 15 clean, fresh items your child has outgrown. Shoes count as one item. After the check, you choose items in the sizes you are allowed to take home.

  2. I want baby clothes

Expecting a baby, buying a gift, or just starting out? Buy 10 preloved baby items in sizes 50, 56, or 62 for EUR20 with the small-size munt.

  3. I want to repair something

Repairs are free, but sign up through the newsletter first. This helps the repair team prepare materials and see what fits into the evening.

How swapping works.

The flow is simple once you see it. Prepare at home, check in, browse by size, then check out before you leave.

  1. Prepare at home

Wash everything, check the quality, and bring the clothes in your own bag.

  2. Come to NHL Stenden

Walk in during public event time and tell check-in what you are here for.

  3. Let volunteers check

They check the clothes, ask for the access contribution if you can pay it, and explain the system.

  4. Place approved clothes

When the check is done, you receive the approved clothes in a temporary bag and place them in the right size section.

  5. Browse by size

Look through the racks and tables. It is also worth checking shoes, socks, winter accessories, and swimwear.

  6. Check out

A volunteer checks what you take home. If you brought more accepted items than you take, your remaining credit can be saved.

How baby clothes work.

If you are only buying baby clothes and not swapping, you can go straight to check-in and say you are there for baby clothes.

Your own bag can be kept safely while you browse with a roomy temporary bag. At check-in, you pay EUR20 for the small-size munt, or use the munt if you received one as a gift. Then you choose 10 items in sizes 50, 56, or 62.

  • The baby racks are near the beginning.
  • Socks and hats are free.
  • It is worth checking shoes and swimwear too.
  • At checkout, hand in the munt and take the clothes home.

How repair works.

The repair team can help with small repairs such as holes, buttons, or shortening trousers. Repairs are free.

Sign up through the newsletter first. You can sign up a maximum of 2 items, so there is time for other visitors too. If your repair is confirmed, bring the item to check-in from 18:00. When the item is ready, you pick it up at checkout.

Ready repairs are written on a board during the evening, so you know when to collect your item at checkout.

Only donating?

If you are only bringing donations and not swapping, go straight to check-in and say they are donations. Good donations are welcome, especially larger children's sizes.

If you want to donate a lot of clothing and cannot bring it to a swap evening, email first to ask what is possible.
