Good clothes, ready for their next round.

Children's clothing swap in Leeuwarden

Every third Monday of the month, Het Gele Laarsje opens its children's clothing swap at NHL Stenden. Swap outgrown clothes, buy small preloved baby sizes, or bring a favourite item for repair.

No registration needed. Walk in during the event and a volunteer will help you find the right place to start.

Three ways in.

You do not need to understand the whole system before coming. Pick the path that fits you now.

  1. Buy baby clothes

Expecting a baby, buying a gift, or no clothes to swap yet? Choose 10 small baby items for EUR20 with the small-size munt.

  2. Swap children's clothes

Bring clean, modern clothes your child has outgrown and take home items in the sizes you need now.

  3. Repair a favourite item

A small hole, missing button, or trousers that need shortening? Repairs are free, but sign up through the newsletter before the event.

What happens when you arrive.

The first few minutes can take a little time because clothes are checked carefully. That is also when someone explains the system.

  1. Come insideEnter the NHL Stenden Experience Center and look for Het Gele Laarsje.
  2. Tell check-in your pathSwapping, baby clothes, repair, or donation.
  3. Clothes are checkedIf you brought clothes, volunteers explain what you can take home.
  4. Browse by sizeRacks and tables are sorted so you can look for the size you need.
  5. Check outA volunteer helps with credit, baby munt, or payment before you leave.

You do not have to know the rules by heart before your first visit. Ask at check-in; that is normal.

The rules are there to keep the racks useful.

You will still get help at check-in, but these are the things worth knowing before you pack a bag.

Bring Up to 15 items Children's clothing in sizes 44-134 and shoes up to size 35 can be checked for swapping.
Condition Clean and ready to wear Clothes need to be fresh, modern, complete, pill-free, and still nice enough for another child.
Size range Up to two sizes up If you bring size 62, for example, you can swap up to size 74. For double sizes like 62/68, the smaller size counts.
Extras Some items work differently Underwear is not accepted. Socks, tights, and winter extras can be free extras, not swap credit.

The full rules also explain brands, rompers, donations, and saved credit. Ask at check-in if one of those applies to what you brought.

What visitors say after coming.

The event is practical, but it should still feel warm when you arrive: real clothes to browse, volunteers nearby, and enough space to take your time.

"There is a lot of nice stuff. And it is just cosy too."

"I would tell everyone: just come and take a look."

Tiny clothes, bigger loop.

If you are expecting a baby, buying a gift, or just starting out, you probably do not have outgrown clothes to bring yet. That is fine.

With the small-size munt, you choose 10 preloved baby items in sizes 50, 56, or 62 for EUR20. Later, when your baby grows, those clothes can become the start of your swap loop.

Why this fits the mission

Repairs and reminders need one extra step.

The event itself is walk-in, but repairs are easier when the team knows what is coming. The newsletter and Instagram also help people remember the monthly rhythm.

Repair a favourite item

Repairs are free. Sign up through the newsletter before the event, then bring the item from 18:00 and check what is possible with the repair team.
